What is GeocoinFest?
GeocoinFest is an international event that is put on to get geocoin collectors together to meet and trade. The first GeocoinFest was held in Temecula California with over 400 people attending.
For this year, instead of one huge event, we decided to break up into regional events all happening at the same time. This would allow people who find it hard to travel the chance to attend one. So far there are sister events in:

Alberta Arizona British Columbia California (North)
California (South) Georgia Hawaii Idaho
Kansas Michigan Minnesota Mississippi
Netherlands New Jersey New Zealand North Carolina
Nova Scotia Oregon Pennslyvania Québec
South Dakota Texas Washington Wisconsin

Event Coin:
There will be an Official GeocoinFest event geocoin, customized for each location. Coin pre-sales are now officially closed. If you pre-ordered coins, you will be able to pick up your coins at the event. There will be a very small amount of coins available for sale at the event for $8.00 each on a first come, first serve basis. Thanks to the several dozen pre-orders placed, over 50 of the North Carolina version of the event coin will be produced!

Geocoin Activities:
Bring your geocoins to trade, swap and share with others for viewing and discovering.

Other Signature Items:
Bring your pathtags and other signature items (trackable or not) to trade, swap and share with others for viewing and discovering.

Park Hours:
11 am - 8:00 pm (entrance gate is locked promptly at 8!)

What you can't do:
Due to the event being held in a state run park, merchandise sales are strictly prohibited. Literature and business cards are allowed. If you have a personal geocoin that you would like to sell, please limit your sales to a location outside of the park.

Other Activities:
Plenty of activities available in the JLESF park for geocachers and non-geocachers alike, including a variety of walking trails and numerous geocaches. There will be a few activities for the little ones, such as a bean-bag toss game, geo-bingo and a design-a-coin craft project. If you have an artistic or crafty flair and like working with kids, we could use a volunteer or two to assist the kids with their crafts.

Geocoin Race:
A group of geocoins will be starting a race from this event, with the finish line being the GeoWoodstock VI event in California next spring. If you haven't ever seen or moved a geocoin that is partaking in a race, this is your chance, as over 50 racers will be revving up their engines and departing throughout the day! Please visit the Hippie Bus Race to Sacramento web site for more details on the race.

Directions and Maps:
From the I-440 Beltline, take US-1 South to the US 64 West exit. Follow US 64 for about 15 miles, after crossing the second Jordan Lake bridge turn right onto Big Woods Road. Follow Big Woods Road for 2.8 miles, park is on your right.
Once in the park, follow the main road through the first parking lot, continue past a helicopter display and park in the trailhead parking lot. Shelter is located a short distance off parking lot near the start of the Talking Tree Trail.
Planning on staying overnight and want to stay near to the event site? (Or you already spent all your spare coin on geocoins like your event hosts and can't afford a hotel!) There are a number of nearby campgrounds. You can see the various locations on the Jordan Lake State Recreation Area map jpg or pdf, the event site is in the center of the map at the pine tree symbol.

We will be providing the main course essentials of hot dogs, buns, ketchup, mustards and relish as well as the plates, napkins, silverware and cups. We will also have a large cooler stocked with water, sodas and juice boxes for the kids. Feel free to bring an extra snack or special item for the grill to share with the group! There are several grills in the shelter and two fireplaces as well as electrical outlets.

If you would like to lend a hand in making this event the best it can be, we would greatly appreciate the addition of any of these items to the food we will be providing: If you plan on bringing an item to share, please post a note to the event page so that we don't end up with 100 pounds of baked beans and no chili! :D

Also, if you are interested in helping with setup or food prep / grilling, arrive at the event location between 11 AM and noon; your assistance will be greatly appreciated!

We are very grateful to the companies, organizations and individuals that have donated time and materials to this event!
