Today race preparation kicked into high gear; fired up the drill press and “ventilated” about 35 hippie buses, plus a swag bus and a die-cast Fillmore.

After drilling, string the owner-drilled coins and the ones I’d just drilled to verify all the hole were large enough for the wire cable.

Verified the tracking numbers of the drilled racers against my database and the GC trackables page; everyone matched up, and posted “grab” logs for any coins that weren’t already dropped into the event.

Once a printed racer tag is laminated and the racer is ready for final assembly, I'll drop them into the event cache where the launch will be held.

I'll post sample pics of the expected layout of the final assembly once I have a laminated tag done, at which point it will be open to a free-for-all of suggestions for about....oh...30 seconds before I start crimping cables! LOL

For racers owned by cachers who will be attending the event, I'll probably leave their assemblies uncrimped so they can be part of my drilling and tagging demonstration at the GCF event.

For those of you who find embedding HTML markup tags inside the TB description a less than joyous event, here's the text I used for one of the racers I activated. Feel free to use this as a starting point for your racer pages and make whatever changes you want. Well, aside from promising more prizes for moving your racer instead of other racers! LOL

This coin is in a race with others. It is NOT a trade item and is NOT meant to be kept by another cacher. 

The race begins in Raleigh, NC on October 6th, 2007 and ends at <a href="http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?wp=GC134MJ" target="_new">GeoWoodstock VI (GC134MJ)</a> on May 28th, 2008. Please make sure all logs on this bug are entered no later that June 1st, 2008 or they won't count towards the race standings.

Launch event submitted

The race launch event listing has been submitted, scheduled for 5 pm - 7 pm at the same date, same location as the GeocoinFest Multi Event (North Carolina) GC14NR4. Event waypoint is GCxxxx, but this may end up folded into the GCF event, depending upon the outcome of Groundspeak review.

Moving some of the race setup minutia related to racer drilling and tagging from the Rules page to make room for more actual rules.

So in case you were looking for the details on getting a boot for your racer, here ya go!

If you would like a "boot" attached to your hippie bus to reduce the likelihood of it being car-jacked, please either drill a hole yourself or indicate that you'd like the Race Coordinator to make such modifications (If requested to drill a hippie bus, the Race Coordinator will drill out the front wheel, so if that isn't where you want a hole, either do it yourself or race your hippie bus hole-less.) The Race Coordinator is not responsible for paint chipping caused by this process, so make sure your hippie bus insurance is up to date.
The Race Coordinator will provide 3/32” wire cabling with a ferrule to the first 50 hippie buses received that have the appropriate after-market 1/8” hole drilled in them (either by the coin owner or by giving permission to the Race Coordinator to make the after-market mod.) Hippie buses with a hole (or request for a hole) received after the 50 cable/ferrule setups are gone will be provided with the standard travel bug pull-chain.
Laminated race cards will be provided for each hippie bus, and will be cabled or chained to the bus if possible, otherwise the card and hippie bus will be placed in a zip-lock baggy.
